2008 SANDY RIDGE NEWSLETTER
2007 was a rewarding year for us…out of the top ten barrel futurity finalists at the 2007 CBHI Barrel Futurity, 5 were sired by Sandy Ridge stallions; 3 Fast Moon Chics, 1 Millionaire Playboy and 1 Docs Paradise!! And a Fast Moon Chic won the FCA calf roping
Hezgottabefamous
Our newest stallion, Hezgottabefamous is a son of the famous Dash Ta Fame, 5 time leading barrel sire, the most popular and successful barrel sire ever. His dam is a ½ sister to Dash For Cash (by Rocket Bar out of a daughter of Azure Te). This kind, good- looking stallion is already attracting a lot of attention. As soon as Doug noticed Hezgottabefamous for sale online in mid December, he said, ”I am going to buy that horse”. Within 10 days Hezgottabefamous was standing in our barn! He was retired due to injury, but after a veterinarian inspection, it looks promising that he will be able to make a comeback. If that’s the case he will be going to Oklahoma to continue training & competition with Lance Graves.
Crimson Jess
We are very pleased with our first Crimson Jess foals. They have nice bodies and are good to be around. Mr Jess Perry si113, sire of Crimson Jess, is the #2 leading race sire of money earners. At the 2007 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, his yearlings grossed more than $3.4 million! A record 13 yearlings sold for $100,000 or more. #1, high seller, Gonnamakeyoureyesblue, $460,000! #2 high seller, Rollingintheclover, $415,000! 71 yearlings sold in 2007 averaging $79,472. At the 2007 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, #1 Seller Katy Corona in foal to Mr Jess Perry sold for $300,000. Another Mr Jess Perry, One Famous Eagle won the $2,000,000 Los Alamitos Futurity, earning $804,000. His dam is a daughter of Chics Beduino out of a daughter of Dash For Cash. This was even more exciting for us as we have our own stakes winning, AAA daughter of Chics Beduino out of First Down Dash by Dash For Cash. Our mare, Mi Chics A Lady is in foal to Crimson Jess for this spring.
Fast Moon Chic
2007 was another excellent year for Fast Moon Chic. Chics Easy Bug & Kerry Maynes and Trina Swerbus & Marthas Ebony Moon earned 3 futurity finalist awards each! Also, Marthas Frosty Chic & JT Robinson won the 2007 FCA Calf Roping Championship title. We anticipate even more in 2008 as we continue to hear many positive comments from girls that ride his colts and from many onlookers. Since we first stood Chic in 2000, we have been leasing him, as his owner Melanie Rettler of Arizona would not sell, but as of last fall she finally relented and Fast Moon Chic is now officially ours!
Root Beers Boots
We have always been impressed with the speed & athletic ability of Root Beers Boots. Last summer, we asked Lynette Brodoway if she would be interested in trying him on barrels. At age 8, Boots excelled quicker than either Lynette or us had expected and we are thrilled with his progress. Within 1 month, Boots had won money in the 3-D at the Twirl and Whirl, Brooks, Alberta and by January ’08 he had won a 1-D jackpot in Arizona. He improves each time out and loving it! Lynette says that as soon as he turns one barrel he’s hunting for the next. We have enough faith in this stallion that we are breeding 4 of our speed-bred mares to him this year. Lynette already has a 2006 Boots colt out of a daughter of Six Fols in training, Root Sixty Six. Root Beers Boots also is the sire of Big Boots To Fill, shown in working cowhorse in 2007 by Cody McArthur and Erin Baumung, earning two seconds. As of 2007, Root Beers Boots offspring will be eligible for the Canandian Supreme. |
Docs Paradise
Congratulations to Deb Renger and Docs Leo Lee for winning the 2007 Rodeo Championship!! While this is Deb’s fifth Canadian title, it’s the first she’s won on her Docs Paradise gelding, Reiner. In November Deb won two CFR rounds, placing on two more and won the average for over $40,000. THEN in December Deb had an excellent showing at the 2007 NFR. She had solid, consistent runs throughout the ten days placing second overall in the average for $53,942 total NFR earnings! As Docs Paradise is 25 years old this year, time is running out to have one of his colts in your barn.
Millionaire Playboy
Millionaire Playboy continues to throw honest and pretty, competitive horses. Gerri Phillips and Azure Cashin In, won the Turn, Burn & Earn 1-D at Claresholm. Also, Nancy Csabay and Thisplaymatecanfly were barrel futurity finalists, three times.
Dudes Genuine San
Several of his colts are in the capable hands of excellent team ropers and barrel racers showing the size and the cow sense that we had hoped when we purchased him. He is an excellent stallion, but we have made the decision to offer him for sale, as we like to keep our stallion numbers to six. He is a 3 x AQHA World Show qualifier and 2002 Canadian National Heeling Champion. Dudes Genuine San is sound and could still be used in team roping and calf roping competition as well as a breeding stallion.
Sandy Ridge Broodmares
In 2007 we added a daughter of Gasohol, a leading Alberta barrel sire, out of a daughter of Major Rene; a daughter of Almars Secret si101, out of a daughter of Lil Easy Cash out of a daughter of Tiny’s Gay and a daughter of Martha Six Moons, full sister to Raisin The Moon. If you are interested in any of our 2008 or 2009 foals, please contact us early, as some of the unborn foals have already been tentatively spoken for.
Millionaire Playboy & Crimson Jess foals are eligible for the Alberta Prairie Gold Race Incentive. Millionaire Playboy, Docs Paradise and Fast Moon Chic have been nominated to the Canadian Barrel Horse Incentive and we offer, as a thank you, our own
